HISTORY

Founded in 1836, Huddersfield Choral Society has an international reputation as the UK's leading choral society, producing a unique and thrilling full-bodied ‘Huddersfield Sound’ from over 200 voices. The repertoire includes both oratorio and religious music, contemporary and commissioned works.  The Society's busy schedule is centred on its own subscription concert season in Huddersfield Town Hall, including of course annual performances of Messiah. The choir also visits other major concert halls in the UK and abroad, regularly broadcasts for BBC radio and television, and has a long history of pioneering recordings.

"We strive to uphold and continually renew a proud tradition of choral singing"

Our professional colleagues are Music Director Martyn Brabbins, Deputy Chorus Master Darius Battiwalla. Rehearsal accompanist is Daniel Gordon and deputy accompanist Malcolm Hinchliffe.  Our agent is Patrick Garvey Management.  Susan Wilkinson directs our Junior Choirs.

Chorus Master

On September 10, 2014, The Huddersfield Choral Society suspended its Chorus Master, Joseph Cullen following an appearance at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday, September 8, charged with two counts of lewd, indecent and libidinous practices and behaviour.

The Officers of the Choral Society acted immediately to suspend Mr Cullen to protect the interests of The Society and its members pending the legal outcome of the allegations.

The Society is not aware of any instances of misconduct while Mr Cullen has been associated with the Choir and as such, has nothing more to add at this stage but we will update this statement as soon as the outcome of the case is known or if anything material occurs.

Preparations for the Society's 2014/15 Season and all other musical matters will progress uninterrupted.
