Agamemnon's Tomb

Dated: 11/05/2008

Huddersfield Choral Society and the Orchestra of Opera North joined forces under the baton of Martyn Brabbins to give the world premiere performance of John Pickard's Agamemnon's Tomb in Huddersfield Town Hall on Friday 9 May 2008.

The work, commissioned by Huddersfield Choral Society, sets part of a poem by Sacheverell Sitwell written in 1933.  The compoeser says: "It is a kind of Requiem, though not in any sense a religious work; instead it is a meditation on mortality and the memorialising of the dead".

Soloists were Susannah Glanville (soprano), Timothy Robinson (tenor) and Roderick Williams (baritone).  The concert opened with Walton's 1953 Coronation Te Deum and Elgar's Enigma Variations.
