How do I join?
Please contact our director Susan about becoming a member on 01924 404737 or junior.choirs@huddersfieldchoral.com
Auditions for the Junior Choirs are very simple and make sure the voice is ready for the choir.
There are vacancies in both choir sections at present and members are taken into the choir sections at all times of year.
Voice training is given as part of the weekly rehearsals for the Choirs. Each choir is directed by Susan Wilkinson a professional musician and vocal coach, who helps choir members to develop their voice to a high standard for their age and ability. The Choirs are given the opportunity to sing in a wide range of styles. Songs from musical theatre, gospel, pop, folk and classical styles are learned to give members a broad experience of vocal music. The Choirs sing to a mixture of accompaniments including backing tracks, brass bands, piano and orchestra.
Choir Members are given the opportunity to perform as soloists with the Choirs.
What are the choirs?
The choirs rehearse and sing in three sections. They also perform altogether as one choir. The choir sections include the Youth Choir for ages 13 to 21+ and the Young Voices for ages 7 to 12. They ensure that young people from around age seven years upwards can learn to sing well and develop their vocal talents through performing in different venues and in front of different audiences each year. They have become well known and always receive good revues at concerts and music festivals
There is also Vocalise that is currently made up of older members of the Young Voices and members of the Youth Choir, who have the skills to progress further in Choral Singing.
All Choirs rehearse each Wednesday evening of the school terms at Almondbury Infant and Nursery School, Longcroft, Almondbury, Huddersfield.
Young Voices from 5.45 to 7.30 pm for ages 7 to around 12 years
Vocalise from 7.30 to 8.15 pm (for unbroken voices from each main section)
Youth Choir from 7.30 to 9.30 pm for ages around 13 to 21+ years
Admission to the choir and movement between the Choir Sections are at the discretion of the Musical Director, according to musicianship & vocal ability and not always according to age.
Where we rehearse
Directions to Almondbury (VA) C of E Infant and Nursery School
Longcroft – Almondbury – Huddersfield – HD5 8XW
From the centre of Huddersfield (at the KINGSGATE CENTRE roundabout near Sainsbury’s) Take the Wakefield Road A629
Stay in the right hand lane here because you turn right at the second set of traffic lights – up Somerset Road.
The hill rises until you come to the village of Almondbury (about 1 ½ miles).
Drive through the village over the bumps and you will find the Parish Church on your right on the corner.
Drive right - (round the church) up Westgate (there are some very old buildings on this corner on the left).
Drive up this road for about a third of a mile and you will turn right on ‘Longcroft’.
The Infant school is almost immediately on the left up a small rise. Do not drive into the school grounds please.
