A sneaky peek at our upcoming concerts…

Christmas Gala Concert, Friday 10th December, Huddersfield Town Hall

We are so excited to be able to join you for our Christmas concert this year!

Joining us on stage on 10th December will be our good friends Black Dyke Band, with Neil Taylor accompanying us on the wonderful town hall organ.

This year, the concert will be presented and conducted by our Associate Choral Director, Ellie Slorach. Ellie studied conducting at the Royal Northern College of Music. She founded Kantos Chamber Choir in 2015, a choir at the forefront of the choral scene in the north, and has been conductor and chorus director for numerous recordings, including with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the BBC Philharmonic and making her debut with the Halle Orchestra during their 2019–20 season.

We’ll be singing many of your favourites at the concert, including the popular O Holy Night arranged by Darius Battiwalla. In addition, you’ll hear some pieces new to the Choral, including the beautiful, atmospheric Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening, commissioned by the Choral Society this year from Anna Disley-Simpson.

Black Dyke has a new Christmas finale for you – Christmas Explosion – which has been composed for the band by Paul Lovatt-Cooper. It is packed full of Christmas carols: Joy to the World, Jingle Bells, Silent Night and Angels we have Heard on High amongst others. Christmas Explosion is dedicated to the composer’s daughter, Melody, who is enjoying her very first Christmas this year!

Messiah, Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th December, Huddersfield Town Hall

Our two Messiah concerts this year (14th & 15th December), with the Royal Northern Sinfonia, will be conducted by our inspirational Choral Director, Gregory Batsleer, and we are also performing a third Messiah at the Sage Gateshead on 18th December, again with Gregory and the RNS.

An exciting team of soloists will join us at this year’s concerts: soprano Jennifer France; counter-tenor Tim Mead; tenor Thomas Walker; and bass Callum Thorpe. Tim, Thomas and Callum are making their debut with the Choral Society.

We are so grateful to our Messiah sponsors this year – R Gledhill & Sons and Brewin Dolphin – for their continuing support.
