HCS Voices land a slice of National Lottery Community Fund

We are pleased to announce that our Community Choir, HCS Voices, has been successful in obtaining funding following an application to National Lottery Awards for All. Using the Community and heading the application ‘Music for Wellbeing, Inclusivity and Friendship’, a sum of £8745 has been awarded to the Voices.

This grant will enable Voices to purchase music that reflects our abilities and our interest in an eclectic range of pieces and syles. We will also obtain polo shirts and fleeces so we can share a joint identity without financial constraints. Voices wishes to reach across our diverse community, to enjoy, learn and improve musically, and to reduce social isolation, loneliness and anxiety. Over the next twelve months, a workshop, open rehearsal and free-to-attend concert are all being planned.

This choir was set up in September 2019 and only managed to operate for one term before the pandemic hit the world. We carried on making music together with zoom rehearsals and kept in touch until in-person rehearsals could start again. Coming back was slow, but since September we have seen both former and new members join us. The word is spreading. We want to increase awareness and understanding across all communities and can do this with our music-making. HCS Voices sings songs from across the world, shares stories and shares friendship.

Anyone over the age of 18 can join and will be made most welcome. Spread the word and please keep playing the National Lottery!
