Dear Subscribers….

Laura Rawnsley took over the role of Subscribers Secretary last May on Jane Armitage’s retirement. It’s been a busy time as she explains here.

I am thrilled to have joined the Huddersfield Choral Society in May last year as a non-singing committee member in the role of Subscribers’ Secretary. I am a dedicated fan of the Choral Society – I have been subscribing for more than 30 years and I have rarely missed a concert. My aim is to represent subscribers, and my first few months have been a very steep learning curve as I have got to know as much as I can about how I can do this most effectively.

For the first time, for the 2022/23 season, I helped to put in place an online booking system to enable subscribers to choose and book their own season tickets. Overall, this was successful and subscribers were able to book the season tickets that they wanted. During the booking period I spoke to a number of subscribers about their experiences of using the online system, and I am now working with the Town Hall Box Office to tweak and improve the system for the coming season. In particular I would like to make it easier to find the booking page. I would also like the system to provide more information about each seat to help subscribers to choose. For example, which seats have steps for access. If you have suggestions for how the online booking system can be improved, please do get in touch with me.

Subscribers are really important to the Choral Society. I’d like to look at how we can encourage more people to commit to our wonderful season of concerts and how we can repay that commitment. This year, for example, subscribers were invited to a pre-season launch event at which they were able to have a chat over a cup of tea and some excellent cake and listen to some great music performances. They were also offered a chance to bring a friend to any concert for half price.
