Mendelssohn: Elijah

Join HCS as it manifests its motto – ‘to uphold and renew a proud tradition …’ Few works better speak to that tradition than Mendelssohn’s great oratorio Elijah, a work that each generation of singers presents anew. Through choruses, sometimes rousing, sometimes full of pathos, and exquisite solos, Elijah tells a theatrical, operatic and dramatic story. Don’t miss the opportunity to hear this masterpiece live.Booking opens at 9 am Tuesday, 15 September 2026

HCS Christmas Concert

Handel: Messiah

Recognised as HCS’s signature piece, Messiah, is probably the most celebrated choral work – and for many, the start of Christmas proper. This year we welcome Charlotte Corderoy, a young conductor with a stellar future, to put her own stamp on the work. Charlotte is already building an international reputation and was Critics’ Circle Conductor of the Year in 2025. You won’t want to miss it.

Duruflé: Requiem & Imogen Holst: Three Psalms

For our spring concert we return to Duruflé's Requiem, an atmospheric and deeply reflective work, performed only twice by the Society, latterly in 2012. Also in the programme is Imogen Holst’s Three Psalms. HCS performed the first of these, Psalm 80, 'Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel', in November 2024 to audience delight, so we welcome the opportunity to revisit this with her settings of Psalm 56, 'Be merciful unto me, O God' and Psalm 91, 'He that dwelleth in the secret place'.

Summer Concert: Friday Night is Music Night

Friday Night Is Music Night is the world's longest-running live orchestral music radio programme – having been first broadcast in 1953. Its lynchpin is the BBC Concert Orchestra and the programmes feature many types of music, including classical, light, film, theatre, songs from the musicals, and opera and operetta. One of its biggest appeals is its unpredictable playlist, which is left unrevealed until broadcast. For that reason, we can’t tell you what the programme will be. You’ll just have to come along and find out!

Why subscribers matter to Huddersfield Choral Society

A loyal and enthusiastic audience inspires our musicians to perform at their very best. From the Society’s earliest days, subscribers have been at the heart of our tradition – back when many choral societies were ‘subscription only’ clubs – and for much of our history, subscribing was the only way to enjoy our performances regularly. HCS proudly continues this legacy and encourages audience members to become subscribers.

Heart With Hands

Why subscribe?

Today, anyone can buy tickets to hear us live, but becoming a subscriber brings exclusive advantages. A season ticket offers excellent value, with discounts on ticket prices, no booking fees, and priority access: you’ll be able to secure your preferred seats up to six weeks before tickets go on general sale. We’re always looking for ways to add even more value, with recent perks including ‘bring a friend for half price’, entry into a prize draw for a pre-concert reception, and even special park-and-ride offers – available only to subscribers.

Concerts guaranteed – three times a year!

Subscribers enjoy the certainty of keeping their seats at all three of the season concerts, including our annual sold-out performance of Handel’s Messiah. Subscribing also brings new experiences each season – as one long-term subscriber told us:‘Over the years, by being a subscriber, I’ve discovered many choral works I’d never heard before, alongside outstanding performances of familiar favourites. For me, the season ticket is well worth the money.’If you cherish the unforgettable experience of hearing world-class choral music performed with leading soloists and orchestras in the historic setting of Huddersfield Town Hall, becoming a subscriber is the best way to be part of it all.
